The Bible and Treatment
Finding Recovery through God’s Word and the Bible
The Bible is the foundation of support in The Recovery Place Christian Substance Abuse Programs. And for good reason—not only as a source of guidance and strength in the future, but as a way of understanding what first led to the alcohol and drug abuse.
The following Bible scriptures are examples of passages used throughout alcohol and drug rehab treatment in one of our Christian Recovery Programs

“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”
This Biblical verse (1Peter 5:8) speaks to not only how someone might fall into drugs and alcohol. That first drink, that first pill. Not paying attention. Not really being aware of where it would lead. It also is a wonderful cautionary reality for recovery, and using the tools you’ll learn in Christian Rehab at The Recovery Place to avoid relapse.
“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”
- You do have the strength to recover from drug and alcohol addiction, with the help of God and The Recovery Place Christian addiction team. This verse (1Corinthians 10:13) shows that God is always there for you, and that if you believe you will never be given a burden that you and God can’t handle. It also is blunt in saying that anyone can fall into temptation, whether it is drugs, alcohol, gambling or a food addiction. You aren’t alone—your story is unique to you, but you have common ground with everyone.
When you go through deep waters,
I will be with you.
When you go through rivers of difficulty,
you will not drown.
When you walk through the fire of oppression,
you will not be burned up;
the flames will not consume you.”
- The minute you enter The Recovery Places Christian drug abuse, alcohol abuse, dual diagnosis or special Christian 12-step program you will be supported, guided and helped. You won’t be alone in your fight anymore. This is an important lesson that is found over and over in Christ’s teachings in the Bible. As you submit and commit yourself to the program you will work at dealing with some hard issues that will bring about the acceptance of yourself and knowing how to embrace the truths of your addiction and better equip yourself in preventing any relapse. You will set goals that are measurable and achievable.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
- No matter what happened in the past. No matter if you've relapsed one time or many times over. You can start again with God’s help; recovery and a new and healthy life can be yours. This verse from 2 Corinthians 5:17 clearly shows that you are never beyond redemption, and that you are worth saving. God thinks so, and everyone at The Recovery Place thinks so, too.
Each part of your treatment at The Recovery Place will teach you how to use The Bible as a powerful guide to addiction recovery. Nothing is left to chance. It’s all there, to get you through your fears, your anger, your denial, and ultimately help celebrate your soaring joy as you begin to recover.
